Forensic and Investigative Hypnosis
Written and Presented by Rob Kelly FIAPH
A two-day certificated course for professionals dealing with traumatic memory.
Overview:
This course has been designed for hypnotherapists and other professionals, to equip them with the necessary insights, understanding and techniques, in order to practice a very specialised form of hypnotherapy known as: Forensic and Investigative Hypnosis. The techniques taught on this course are ideal for helping people who have:
(a) experienced some form of traumatic incident(s) and are struggling to process it, or are suffering in some way as a consequence of it
(b) experienced some form of traumatic incident(s), and have poor memory recall (or none at all) about the experience(s)
(c) experienced some form of traumatic incident(s), have poor memory recall (or none at all) about the experience(s) and where the information gathered about the experience(s) may be used in Civil or Criminal legal proceedings
The foundations of this course are based around three main disciplines:
(1) Investigative and Analytical Hypnotherapy Techniques
(2) Critical Incident Debriefing
(3) Enhanced Cognitive Interviewing
This course will teach many practical skills, but will also review all the pertinent research and studies.
Investigative and analytical hypnotherapy techniques :
Simple and easy to use techniques that will enable your clients to gently and safely recall experiences, whilst processing and resolving the attached emotional conflicts. This part of the course pays particular attention to current research around the subject of False Memory Syndrome
Critical Incident Debriefing:
CID is about having a structured 'therapeutic interview' where a person is able to recall and process a traumatically-stressful experience, in a calm, safe and empowering way. CID is being used more and more to help people overcome the effects of traumas such as: road traffic accidents, sudden deaths, post traumatic stress disorder and violent and sexual crime.
A person who has suffered a major trauma doesn't necessarily need 'therapy' in the usual sense of the word - they just need to be able to process and move on from the experience.
Cognitive Interviewing:
The 'Cognitive Interview' (or 'Enhanced Cognitive Interview) is what has slowly been replacing the more familiar 'interrogations' that the majority of Police Forces around the world have been using for the last hundred years or so. The basis of the Cognitive Interview, is a structured, 'friendly' interview, where rapport-building and memory-enhancing techniques are used in order to gain maximum useful information from the client/subject/witness.
Rob Kelly is able to bring a totally unique, and insightful approach to the use of Forensic Hypnosis, because of his extensive experience of using Pure Hypnoanalysis. Over 20 years, as a full time hypnotherapist and psychotherapist, he has helped 'retrieve' information from THOUSANDS of people, and has been able to refine and develop his techniques during this time.
Some of the areas covered during the two-day course include:
- How memories of traumatic events are processed
- Why do people repress/dissociate traumatic experiences
- Different memory-enhancing techniques
- Real case-studies
- Research findings around the subject of 'False Memory Syndrome'
- How to gather evidence that is admissible in a court of law and the legal aspects of Forensic Hypnosis in the UK.
- Legal issues surrounding 'recovered memory'
- Techniques to enhance hypnoanalysis or Pure Hypnoanalysis
- How to help a person remember and recover from a traumatic incident
All the information and techniques presented during this course are fully supported by research findings - including the IAPH's own recent research project into recovered memory
About the course writer/presenter:
Rob Kelly FIAPH has been in full-time practice as a clinical hypnotherapist and psychotherapist for 20 years, and has developed a number of empowering techniques around the subjects of smoking cessation, limiting belief systems, recovered memory and sexual abuse. Rob has developed a very specialised form of analytical hypnotherapy known as Pure Hypnoanalysis.
Over the last 20 years he has helped thousands of people to recover repressed memories and experiences that were causing conflict - allowing these people to resolve the symptoms and anxieties caused by these memories, and many of these experiences have later led to prosecutions. On many occasions Rob has provided assistance to the Police, Social Services, victims and perpetrators of crime and many professionals within the medical and healthcare sectors.
Some examples of where Rob's Forensicc techniques have been successfully employed include: numerous rape and sexual assault cases, many childhood sexual abuse cases, and a couple of well-known murder enquiries
Due to the advanced nature of this course, it is only open to those professionals who already posess a qualification in either psychology, hypnotherapy or psychotherapy, or current IAPH Students.
This course is accredited with 16 hours of CPD (continuing Professional Development) and attendees will receive a certificate of attendance, and a complete set of course notes.
This course is a module in the IAPH Advanced Diploma Programme.
